Schumanns andra - Norrlandsoperans Symfoniorkester
Robert Schumann began work on his Second Symphony in 1845, but it took time because he was simultaneously struggling with depression, poor health and hearing problems. He wrote to his friend Felix Mendelssohn that he constantly heard drums and trumpets in his ears. Maybe it was real hearing problems, maybe it was related to his mental illness. That is why it is somewhat surprising that the basic tone of the symphony is so positive. It was premiered in Leipzig in 1846, with Mendelssohn as conductor.
