New restaurants in Umeå
There’s plenty happening on Umeå’s restaurant scene. New places are opening, familiar addresses are getting new menus, and suddenly there’s another good reason to eat out on a perfectly ordinary Tuesday. Here are some of the latest additions – from Danish smørrebrød and New York-style pizza to intimate dinners with northern European flavours.
New restaurants and bars
Ateljé Vita Duken
Small, understated and ambitious. Ateljé Vita Duken is the most intimate restaurant at Tornhuset, where Per Söderberg and Mathias Dahlgren work with seasonal ingredients and flavours from northern Europe. And it hasn’t taken long to get noticed: during its first year, the restaurant was named Destination of the Year by Swedish business magazine DI Weekend and New Restaurant of the Year in Sweden in the Falstaff Restaurant & Bistro Guide Nordics 2026. Not bad for a newcomer in Umeå’s former power station.
One More Slice
New York-style pizza, natural wine and a refreshingly straightforward idea: grab a slice or take a whole pizza home. The dough is left to ferment slowly before being topped with a mix of classics and the kitchen’s own combinations.
Bröd & Vin
At Bröd & Vin in Tornhuset, the flavours head south. The inspiration comes mainly from Spain, France and Italy, with food and wine served in a relaxed setting. A taste of warmer latitudes without leaving Umeå.
Guten & Dansken
Denmark has moved in – at least on the plate. Guten & Dansken serves classic Danish smørrebrød and also has a shop stocked with Danish cheeses and carefully selected delicacies from Denmark and the Swedish island of Gotland. Good for lunch, and potentially dangerous if you were only planning to pop in for a look.
Kuben Väst på stan
Kuben has headed west. At its Väst på stan location, street food is the order of the day, with burgers, kebabs and grilled dishes for lunch and dinner. Kuben also has restaurants in the Umeå neighbourhoods of Ersboda and Tomtebo.
